Class 2 2020 - 2021

Welcome to Class 2

This is a busy term in Class 2. We are  looking forward to  exciting events with lots of creative, stimulating activites to enrich our  learning.


Our Learning


 Our class topic this half term is, 'Where do owls live?' In the topic the children will be working on how animals, including humans grow. Looking at owls and how their babies grow into adults. We will have a focus on Geography to compare and contrast their local area of Frodsham to a non-European location. In Art we will be delving into the work of Joan Miro, a Spanish painter, sculptor and ceramicist born in Barcelona. We will be focusing on his use of magical realism and surrealism in our topic work. 


In English our text is, 'Troll Swap'. We will be working in a varitey of creative and academic ways throughout this text, with an aim to write a fiction story with a focus on character. Our class novel is, 'Trolls Go Home', which we will use to compare the characters of trolls within our English text. 


In Maths we are focusing on Number and Place Value, looking at our 10's and 1's to recap our learning from Year One to consolidate and expand it further. We will then move on to addition and subtraction. We will focus on fact families, number bonds and then begin to use addition and subtractin with two digit numbers. Children will use resources to aid their learning and be extended through varied fluency and reasoning and problem solving questions. 

The Way, the Truth and the Life

Our Way Truth and Life topic is, 'The Chosen People'. We will be thinking about the fact that we gave been chosen by God and how else we have been chosen in life and how this makes us feel. We will learn that God chose Abraham and obeyed his commands.  We will then learn about the journey of Moses, which was God's plan. Then, we will delve into the teaching of Daniel in the lion's den. We will be leanring in a vairty of ways; art, drama, video, story and writing. 


The children have PE every Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure that your child comes into school wearing their kit. 


Every Monday spellings will be taught and then uploaded onto the website. Children will be tested every Friday.

Reading books will be changed every Friday. However, please ensure that your child has their book in school every day. Please hear and read to your child  every day, encourage them to discuss the story  and characters.
