Class 2 2017 - 2018

Welcome to Class 2

Teacher: Mrs Williams

Teaching Assistant:  Mrs Mc Adam

Our Learning

This half term our topic is "Explore". We are investigating the basic needs of  animals  for their survival. We will be looking at a range of animals from meerkats to penguins.  We will  explore their habitats and where they live in the world. Class 2 will be using maps and globes to locate the continents and oceans of the world. We will study Scotts's exploration of the South Pole and Antarctica.  In English, as part of The Primary Writing Project, we are looking at narrative: alternative traditional tales. We will  study the text "Jack and the Baked Beanstalk". We will write our own versions of  Jack and the Beanstalk. We are then looking at poetry. A poem we will be learning is "Giants" by Charles Thompson

In Maths we are focusing on multiplication and division. Then we will use our number skills to investigate money problems.  We will be exploring flunency and reasoning.

The Way, the Truth and the Life

Our Way Truth and Life topic is "Good News".  We will be learning how Jesus turns sadness to joy and that we should always say thank you to Jesus for his help and how Jesus used his power to help others through the Gospel stories. We will learn how we can be a "Good News" person and how it affects our behaviour.

The children have PE every Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure that your child has their kit in school and that it is clearly labelled.

Every Monday, spelling books will be sent home with words that your child will be learning that week in phonics. Please encourage your child to practice these words and apply them in their writing.

Reading books will be changed every Monday and Thursday, however, please ensure that your child has their book in school every day. Please hear and read to your child  every day, encourage them to discuss the story  and characters  in the book.

Homework will be sent home every Thursday and will alternate between Maths and English. This should be brought back into school the following Monday.
