Class 2 2019 - 2020

Welcome to Class 2

Teacher: Mrs Williams


This is a busy term  in Class 2. We are  looking forward to  exciting events with lots of creative, stimulating activites and visits to enrich our  learning.


Our Learning


 Our class topic this half term is Fire Fire! In the topic about the Great Fire of London the children will, understand the ways in which we can know about the past. They will extend their knowledge about the Great Fire of London by learning about the life of Samuel Pepys and understand how things have changed. They will use artefacts, documents, pictures & paintings in their learning. In English we will be studying Major Glad, Major Dizzy by Jan Oke. We will be writing in the correct tense, using subordination, exploring more new vocabulary and learning to use apostrophes for possession. We will write a recount of histrical events from the text from Major Glad's point of view.


In Maths we are focusing on fractions. We will learn to name and write fractionsof a length, shape, objects and amounts including 1/3, 1/4, 1/2, 2/4 & 3/4.   We will be exploring flunency and reasoning to explain how we came to our answers.

The Way, the Truth and the Life

Our Way Truth and Life topic is "The Mass".  We will have the opportunity to know and reflect on the importance of the Mass.We will be learning about the readings and offertory gifts in the Mass.  We will know and appreciate that at the Consecration the bread and wine are changed into Jesus. . Have the opportunity to know that Jesus can turn sadness into joy. Have the opportunity to know that we should always remember to thank Jesus for his help.


The children have PE every Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure that your child has their kit in school and that it is clearly labelled.


Every Monday, spelling books will be sent home with words that your child will be learning that week in phonics. Please encourage your child to practice these words and apply them in their writing.

Reading books will be changed every day however, please ensure that your child has their book in school every day. Please hear and read to your child  every day, encourage them to discuss the story  and characters  in the book.

Homework will be sent home every Thursday and will alternate between Maths and English. This should be brought back into school the following Monday.
