Class 2 2019 - 2020

Welcome to Class 2

Teacher: Mrs Williams

We are beginning  our time in Class 2. We are  looking forward to an exciting year ahead with lots of creative, stimulating activites and visits to enrich our  learning.

Our Learning

This half term our topic is "Do the Owls Know Where We Live?". We are comparing Frodsham and the surrounding area with a rural village in Kenya. The children will be familiar with Frodsham. By visiting the market and the library we will explore in more detail the facilities Frodsham has to offer. We will compare homes, schools, markets and animals that live in both countries. Class 2 will be using maps, Google Earth and globes to locate the continents and oceans of the world.

In English, we are exploring characters in stories by reading “Troll Swop”. We will Plan or say out loud what is going to be written about. Use punctuation correctly – full stops, capital letters. Write expanded noun phrases to describe. Use subordination (because) and coordination (and) in our writing.

In Maths we are focusing on Place Value, Addition and Subtraction. We will be enriching our understanding of number, by knowing the value of the digits, ordering, comparing numbers, counting in steps of 2,3,5 and 10. l We will be exploring flunency and reasoning to explain how we came to our answers.

The Way, the Truth and the Life

Our Way Truth and Life topic is "Chosen People".  We will have the opportunity to know that they are chosen and gifted by God. They can thank God for choosing them by helping others. They will learn that God chose Abraham Moses and Daniel, how they had faith and trusted in God.

The children have PE every Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure that your child has their kit in school and that it is clearly labelled.

Every Monday, spelling books will be sent home with words that your child will be learning that week in phonics. Please encourage your child to practice these words and apply them in their writing.

Reading books will be changed when the child is ready for the next book,  however, please ensure that your child has their book in school every day. Please hear and read to your child  every day, encourage them to discuss the story  and characters  in the book.

Homework will be sent home every Thursday and will alternate between Maths and English. This should be brought back into school the following Monday.
