Class 4 2020 - 2021

Welcome to Class 4

Teacher: Mrs Fairman

Our Learning

In Class 4, we are learning lots of interesting and exciting things. Our topic for the Spring Term is 'Race around the World'. The topic begins where we left in the Autumn Term at Mount Kilimanjaro. As we look into how this used to be a volcano, we will explore different volcanoes around the world before settling in Italy where we explore 'The Romans' and their impact on Britain. Throughout the term, we will explore our topic through engaging and creative lessons.

Black History Month

During Black History Month, we read the book called 'Hidden Figures: The True Story of Four Black Women and the Space Race'. It tells the story of Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson, and Christine Darden as they helped with NASA's great successes. We used the book as a base for discussion and used the story to inspire our own writing.

Our R.E topic for this half term is Jesus, the Teacher. We are learning about the teachings of Christ and how they continue to impact on our lives today. We will also look in detail at the parables within the Bible and explore their meanings.

PE

Full PE kits, which are clearly labeled with the child's name, should be in school each day. This includes trainers and pumps so that suitable footwear is available for the activity they will be participating in. Spare socks are also a good idea to have in the PE bag. All jewellery must be removed and long hair should be tied back.

Useful websites to support home learning:

We encourage all pupils to access these websites on a weekly basis to improve their learning.

Reading is an important focus within our school and children are encouraged to read as much as possible at home. This includes their school reading book and other genres of writing to expand their knowledge of different types of texts.

Worries/ Concerns

I am always happy to discuss any worries, concerns or general queries you may have. Please make an appointment through school office, should you want to arrange a meeting.
