Reception 2020 - 2021

 Teacher: Miss H Ledsham

Teaching Assistant: Mrs R Green

Welcome to Reception!

Welcome to our Reception Class page, where we will keep you up to date with the children's learning and share important information, events and photographs with you.  We aim to provide a wonderful learning environment for the children in the Early Years Foundation Stage that is full of nurture, fun and engagement.

Communication

Please tell the team if you have any worries or concerns.  We are always available to talk about your child, their learning, progress and well-being.  We look forward to getting to know you and your child as they begin their first year in school.

Our Topic/Book this half term is 'The Journey From Home'.

This half term the children have been learning the The Journey From Home. They have learnt how to retell the story which has supported the children's oral retelling and understanding of a different type of story.  The children have been extending their social skills and role play in our role play areas as a travel agent.

In Maths the children have been consolidating numbers 0-20 as well as knowing one more and one less than any given number up to 20.  We have also been completing addition within 20 using objects.   In Shape Space and Measure the children have been learning the names of 2D and 3D shapes.

Home Learning

We miss all the children at St Lukes Catholic Primary School very much and we hope that you are all taking good care of yourselves and staying safe.  Currently our class page and the Home Learning tab on this school website lists ideas and activities for learning at home.  Hopefully you will find it useful and engaging when supporting your child's learning.

Below are some other online activities for you to do with your child as and when you please.  Please don't feel the need that they have to all be done in one go.  If you explore and complete any of the activities below please feel free to upload any pictures and observations to Learning Book.

The Way, the Truth and the Life

'Lent'

The RE scheme we follow at St Luke's Catholic Primary School is 'The Way, The Truth and The Life, which is taught in every class.  This half term we will be learning about 'Lent', as well as having worship time and prayers embedded  into our daily  routine.

PE

PE is currently in the hall on a Thursday morning.  Please keep you child's PE bag in school on these days.  Our unit of work this term is fundamental skills.

Reading Books

Books will be changed on a Tuesday and a Friday.   Please make sure you are reading with your child at home and make a comment in their reading diary.  If you wish you keep a book a little longer you can keep the book until the next Friday or Tuesday.

Not forgetting to mention....

Please ensure that your child bring a named water bottle into school everyday and if you haven't done so already, please could you provide your child with a pair of wellies to keep in school for the year.  We will be using the field aspart of our outdoor classroom regularly and want the children to be prepared!

Assessment and Learning Journeys

To document our learning in Reception, we use the online learning journey 'Learning Book'.

You can view your child's learning at any time, on any device, using your email address and creating your own password. You can reset this at any time, if needed!  The website address is www.learningbook.co.uk

Not only can you view your child's learning but you can also add in your own images and comments to share what learning has been taking place at home. We love celebrating these moments in school and they demonstrate the progress that your child is making.

Kind regards

Miss Ledsham
