Reception 2021 - 2022
Teacher: Miss H Ledsham
Teaching Assistant: Mrs S Steele
Welcome to Reception!
Welcome to our Reception Class page, where we will keep you up to date with the children's learning and share important information, events and photographs with you. We aim to provide a wonderful learning environment for the children in the Early Years Foundation Stage that is full of nurture, fun and engagement.
Please notify Miss Ledsham on the gate or contact the school office if you wish to have a conversation about your child and then this can be arranged by Miss Ledsham. We are always available to talk about your child, their learning, progress and well-being. We look forward to getting to know you and your child as they begin their first year in school.
Our Topic/Book this half term is ‘All About Me’ linking in with the text ‘The Gingerbread Man’.
Once the children have settled in to their new learning environment and baseline is complete, the children will be completing activities based around the story of 'The Gingerbread Man'. This is a traditional tale that the children are likely to be familiar with. This text is chosen by our school Literacy scheme 'Pathways to Write' which is supported by the Literacy Company. Each half term a new text is taught and the children gain the skills they need to be able to to read and write. The role play area within our learning environment will be a 'House' as this is a familiar setting that all children can relate to. The children will also be learning about the different animals in the story and how to make 'Gingerbread Men'.
The teaching and learning of Mathematics is supported by a whole school scheme called Power Maths. This scheme has a mastery approach and supports the children to count, order and recognise numbers in line with the revised Early Years Curriculum 2021. Children start by learning numbers 1-5 and will understand how to make these numbers using different quantities.
The Way, the Truth and the Life ‘Getting to Know Jesus’
The RE scheme we follow at St Luke's Catholic Primary School is ‘The Way, The Truth and The Life’, which is taught in every class. This half term we will be beginning with the topic of 'God's World' during our RE lessons and collective worship time.
PE day will be confirmed once full time school begins on Monday 6th September 2021. On the morning of your child's PE day please send your child into school wearing their PE kit. Long hair will need to be tied back and earrings taken out or covered with plasters.
Reading Books will be changed on a Monday and a Thursday. Please send your child into school with their reading book in their book bag everyday. More information will follow regarding reading logs etc.
Every child in Reception has their own online learning journey. Observations can be viewed once you have access to the 'Parent Portal'. A few weeks after your child has started school Miss Ledsham will create an account for you to gain access to 'Learning Book' and then you will be sent an email to create your own password. Once you have done this you will be able to view your child's learning journey and add your own comments and observations at home.
Below are some websites you might find useful to explore with your child as and when you please. Please don't feel the need that they have to all be done in one go. If you explore and complete any of the activities below please feel free to upload any pictures and observations to Learning Book.
Not forgetting to mention....
If you have any worries or concerns about your child please do not hesitate to contact the school office to arrange a telephone conversation with Miss Ledsham.
Your help and support is appreciated .
