Welcome to Reception!

Welcome to our Reception Class page, where we will keep you up to date with the children's learning and share important information, events and photographs with you.  We aim to provide a wonderful learning environment for the children in the Early Years Foundation Stage that is full of nurture, fun and engagement. 

 

Communication

Please notify Miss Ledsham on the gate or contact the school office if you wish to have a conversation about your child and then this can be arranged by Miss Ledsham.  We are always available to talk about your child, their learning, progress and well-being.  We look forward to getting to know you and your child as they begin their first year in school.

 

Our Topic/Book this half term is ‘Animals’ linking in with the text ‘Silly Doggy’.

 

This half the Pathways to Write text is ‘Silly Doggy’.  This story is all about a girl who find a pet in her garden. It is designed to support children talk about different animals and their pets.  The role play area will be a ‘Vets’ where the children can help different animals to get better.  The children will also learn about different different animals and where they live and some facts about them

 

Mathematics

In Maths the children will be starting Phase 5 from The WhiteRose Maths scheme.  The topic for the first part of Spring term is called ‘To 20 and Beyond’ The children will learn how to recognise the larger numbers 11-20 and they will be able to order these numbers and say which number is 1 more and 1 less than any given number.  The children will also learn how to add and subtract within 20 using objects.

All children should now have their Google Classroom login. Login details will allow access to remote learning which Miss Ledsham will set if any child/children has to learn from home because of isolation due to to COVID 19.  Please contact the school office if your have any questions on this.

 

The Way, the Truth and the Life ‘Getting to Know Jesus’

The RE scheme we follow at St Luke's Catholic Primary School is ‘The Way, The Truth and The Life’, which is taught in every class.  This half term we will be learning all about ‘New Life’ during our RE lessons and collective worship time.

 

PE

PE will be taught on a Friday morning by Mrs Green.  Please send your child into school wearing their PE kit.  Long hair will need to be tied back and earrings taken out or covered with plasters.

 

Reading Books

Reading Books will be changed on a Monday and a Thursday.  Please read with your child at home and make a comment on your child's reading in the 'Manage Parents Area' on the school website'  Please send your child into school with their reading book in their book bag everyday.

 

Learning Book

Every child in Reception has their own online learning journey.  Observations can be viewed once you have access to the 'Parent Portal'.  Please send your chosen email to admin@stlukes.cheshire.sch.uk  if you haven't done so already.  Miss Ledsham will activate your account and then you will be sent an email to create your own password.  Once you have done this you will be able to view your child's learning journey and add your own comments and observations at home.
