Reception 2019 - 2020

 Teacher: Miss H Ledsham

Teaching Assistant: Mrs R Green

Welcome to Reception!

Welcome to our Reception Class page, where we will keep you up to date with the children's learning and share important information, events and photographs with you.  We aim to provide a wonderful learning environment for the children in the Early Years Foundation Stage that is full of nuture, fun and engagement.

Please tell the team if you have any worries or concerns.  We are always available to talk about your child, their learning, progress and well-being.  We look forward to getting to know you and your child as they begin their first year half term in school.

Our Topic this term is 'The Gingerbread Man'.

This half term we will learn the story of 'The Gingerbread Man'. We will learn how to retell the story to support the children's oral retelling and understanding of a familiar story.   The children will also complete activities related to the story such as decorating a gingerbread man and and building bridges and boats for the Gingerbread to use to cross the river.  The children will be able to extend their social skills and role play in our role play areas of a bakery and cootage.

Our Learning

The children will also develop others skills such as making and painting as well as reading a variety of fiction and non fiction books in our indoor and outdoor reading Den.  Children will develop their understanding of the world further using technology and learning about different animals and what they do.

In Maths the children will be consolidating numbers 0-10 as well as knowing one more and one less than any given number up to 10.  In Shape Space and Measure the children will be learning the names of 2D shapes.

The Way, the Truth and the Life

The RE scheme we follow at St Luke's Catholic Primary School is 'The Way, The Truth and The Life, which is taught in every class.  This term we will be learning about 'Creation', as well as having worship time and prayers embedded  into our daily  routine.

PE is currently in the hall on either on a Thursday morning or a Friday morning.  Please keep you child's PE bag in school on these days.  Our unit of work this term is fundamental skills.

Reading Books

Books will be changed on a Tuesday and a Friday.   Please make sure you are reading with your child at home and make a comment in their reading diary.  If you wish you keep a book a little longer you can keep the book until the next Friday or Tuesday.

Not forgetting to mention....

Please ensure that your child bring a named water bottle into school everyday and if you haven't done so already, please could you provide your child with a pair of wellies to keep in school for the year.  We will be using the field aspart of our outdoor classroom regularly and want the children to be prepared!

Assessment and Learning Journeys

To document our learning in Reception, we use the online learning journey 'Learning Book'.
