Music

Music

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.

Music is a key part of life at St Luke's, whether it's singing in the choir, piano lessons, woodwind lessons or playing string instruments in Class 5.

At St Luke's we use the Charanga Music School Scheme to deliver our Music lessons.

Scheme Overview

The Charanga Musical School Scheme provides teachers with week-by-week lesson support for each year group in the school. It is ideal for specialist and non-specialist teachers and provides lesson plans, assessment, clear progression, and engaging and exciting whiteboard resources to support every lesson. The Scheme supports all the requirements of the national curriculum.

In line with the curriculum for music and guidance from Ofsted, this Scheme moves away from the previous levels and learning objective/outcome concepts to an integrated, practical, exploratory and child-led approach to musical learning.

How the Scheme is structured

Each Unit of Work comprises the of strands of musical learning which correspond with the national curriculum for music:

  1. Listening and Appraising
  2. Musical Activities
    1. Warm-up Games
    2. Optional Flexible Games
    3. Singing
    4. Playing instruments
    5. Improvisation
    6. Composition
  3. Performing

Visitors to our school frequently comment on the musical sounds around our school whilst we practice and prepare for our many musical events including assemblies, masses, concerts and productions. None of this would be possible without our wonderful and talented pupils from across both KS1 and KS2.

If you are interested in working with our fabulously talented pupils then please contact the school office and ask to speak to Mrs Fairman.

2018 - 2019 Musical Performances

The Royal Cheshire Show, Knutsford - Tuesday 18th June

Our fabulous choir were, once again, selected to sing at The Royal Cheshire Show. On Tuesday 18th June we took to the Main Bandstand stage and performed to a huge crowd. The choir were full of enthusiasm, energy and excitement. There was a huge amount of postive feedback from members of the public and they put a smile on everyone's faces. We are very proud of everyone who attended and performed. Throughout the day, they represented St Luke's exceptionally well and we can't wait for our next performance.

See the pictures from our performance in the 'Gallery' section.

AmaSing 2019 - Tuesday 12th March

Many members of our fabulous school choir were part of the AmaSing 2019 shows. They were singing alongside hundreds of other primary school choirs from the local area. This year, St Luke's were lucky enough to be selected to go onto the stage and sang alongside the accompanying band and other schools. There were also lots of other performers to make up a spectacular show. Click on the website below to see more fabulous images of the wonderful show.
